4 Tips that COMPLETELY Changed How I Worked with ChatGPT

Want to get better at using AI to write your copy? Yeah, so do I and millions of other business owners around the world! If you want to get better outputs from ChatGPT, stick around for 10ish minutes to read my top four tips for doing so. (By the way, these tips work for content ideation, emails, landing pages, website copy, bios, blogs, social media captions, and more.)

Train Your ChatGPT for Your Specific Needs

The first tip to get better outputs from ChatGPT is to train it, just like you’d train a puppy. Here are three steps to start.

1. Define Your Ideal Customer Avatar

Start by asking ChatGPT to create an ideal customer avatar based on specific demographics and psychographics. For example: “Please create an ideal customer avatar for a female aged 35-45, who is successful in her career, lives in the United States, makes over six figures, is super ambitious and driven, but struggles with feelings of inadequacy and invisibility.”

2. Describe Your Products or Services

Feed ChatGPT detailed descriptions of your products or services. Example: “Please write a service description for a one-on-one personal brand coaching program that includes unlimited events, two-day live experiences in Nashville, Tennessee, and access to a 14-course curriculum.”

3. Explain Your Company Profile

Provide information about your company to help ChatGPT understand your brand’s voice and mission.

Example: “Create a company profile for Brand Builders Group, which specializes in personal brand strategy for coaches, consultants, speakers, authors, entrepreneurs, and small business owners.”

Use Consistent Chat Threads

As you’re training your ChatGPT, make sure to keep all your interactions within a single chat thread. This allows you to build on each new prompt without starting from scratch every time. The more context ChatGPT has, the better it can tailor its responses.

Be Specific with Your Prompts

When you give ChatGPT a task, be as specific as possible.

Specify the Tone and Style

Active voice vs. passive voice, humor vs. seriousness, verbose vs. concise.

Example: “Write a landing page in an active voice using the 15 Ps of copywriting from Brand Builders Group for a first-time buyer. Include humor and be concise.”

Target Audience

First-time buyers vs. repeat customers

Example: “Create an email campaign for repeat customers offering a seasonal discount.”

Copywriting Formulas

Use specific formulas like AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) or PAS (Problem, Agitate, Solve).

Example: “Draft a sales email using the PAS formula for a new product launch.”

Provide Feedback and Iterate

ChatGPT can refine its outputs based on your feedback, so give it specific instructions for revisions.

Example: “Rewrite this paragraph with more humor,” or “Make this email shorter and more engaging.”

Practical Examples of Prompts

Here are some practical examples to illustrate how you can structure your prompts for better outputs:

1. Landing Page

“Create a landing page for a new personal branding course targeting ambitious professionals aged 25-40. Use an active voice, include testimonials, and highlight key benefits.”

2. Email Campaign

“Draft a series of five emails for a Black Friday sale targeting existing customers. The first email should introduce the sale, the second should highlight popular products, the third should offer a special discount code, the fourth should remind customers of the sale ending soon, and the fifth should create urgency on the last day of the sale.”

3. Social Media Posts

“Write a week’s worth of social media posts for Instagram promoting our upcoming webinar. Each post should be engaging, use emojis, and include a call-to-action to register for the webinar.”

Key Takeaways

1. Train ChatGPT: Teach it about your avatar, products, and company.

2. Consistency: Keep all interactions in one chat thread.

3. Specificity: Be detailed in your prompts.

4. Feedback: Keep refining the outputs with specific feedback.

By taking the time to properly train ChatGPT and being specific with your prompts, you can switch from being a copywriter to a copy editor. This approach will save you time, money, and effort so you can produce high-quality content efficiently. Try it out and let me know how it goes!
